In the above video, then-U.S. Sen. Barack Obama had the audacity to call President George W. Bush unpatriotic because he added more than $4 trillion to the national debt over the course of his eight-year presidency.
That is certainly laughable.
Obama should reach $4 trillion in the next few days and he is only in his third year in office. Obama is adding on average $129 billion a month to the national debt. By comparison, as the chart below shows, Bush added only $51 billion a month to the national debt, more than half the rate of Obama. If we continue at the current pace, if Obama were to serve two terms (I know, ridiculous) he will add nearly $13 trillion to the national debt.
And it is wholly unnecessary as the Cato Institute’s Dan Mitchell points out in his blog.
In a report the Congressional Budget Office issued recently, it is forecast that government revenues, without any tax increases, will increase about 6.6 percent per year from $2.3 trillion today to $4.4 trillion by 2021. Spending, on the other, is currently at $3.6 trillion. All we have to do to balance the budget is not increase spending more than $800 billion over the next decade and the budget will be balanced by 2021 or sooner.
That’s right, we could actually increase spending $800 billion and still balance the budget in a decade. Unfortunately, every time Obama wants to “stimulate” the economy, we easily spend $800 billion. I also suspect that Obama’s so-called “jobs plan” will include at least $1 trillion in spending.
When will the leftists finally admit that Obama did not inherit this mess, he created it.
